How To Keep Your Skin Healthy During Cancer Treatment

Cancer treatments can be brutal on the skin. If you are currently going through chemotherapy, then you are probably experiencing some not too pleasant changes in your skin. The good news is that you can reduce the damage to your skin that chemotherapy can cause . Here are some steps for doing that.

Start Cleaning More Gently

If you are currently using facial cleansers that sud excessively or sting, then you will need to eliminate these immediately. Replace these types of cleansers with a creamy facial cleanser since these tend to be gentler on the skin. You can also opt for using gels cleansers since these are also not as harsh on the skin as cleansers that sud or sting.

Hydrate Your Skin Constantly

In order to keep your skin moisturized so that it doesn't get extra dry and crack, you will need to hydrate it as much as possible. One of the best ways to do this is by creating a solution that you can spray on your face throughout the day.

One of the best non-toxic ways to continually keep the skin hydrated especially when out in the sun is to use green tea and honey. All you need to do is to make the tea and add at least a teaspoon of honey. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and spray it on your face throughout the day as needed. This treatment is effective because honey is a humectant that keeps moisture on the skin. The water in the tea is a natural moisturizer and green tea contains a nutrient called catechin which provides natural UV protection from the sun.

Watch What You Eat

Fruits have all the right nutrients to keep your skin glowing, so top up your fruit intake to least five or more servings a day. Eat proteins that have a low fat content. These proteins are found in eggs, fish, lean meat, nuts, and legumes. Make sure you eat healthy carbohydrates such as whole grains. This means you should be eating brown rice instead of white rice, lots of oatmeal, as well as whole wheat bread and crackers. Eating this way will get all the right nutrients into your body to nourish the skin.

Treatment for cancer can not only make you feel tired but it can make your skin look tired as well. However, with a few strategic steps which involve using the right products and eating the right foods you can keep your skin from suffering a lot of damage from your treatments.
