Foods That Help To Relieve Chronic Dry Skin Problems

If you are suffering from chronic dry skin, you may find that your skin becomes red and swollen easily. This kind of dry skin may require medical intervention. However, even if medication is necessary, you can enhance the effect of the medication by eating foods that help to heal dry skin.

Eat Fatty Fish and Flaxseeds

Omega-3 fatty acids help to keep your skin from drying out. Omega-3 fatty acids work by strengthening your skin's barrier so that less moisture is lost. In order to reap the benefit, you should eat a lot of fish such as tuna, trout, and salmon which are high in omega-3 fatty acids. You can also eat flaxseeds to get the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids. Flaxseeds may be eaten on their own or added to drinks, smoothies, salads or even soup.

Eat More Nuts

Nuts contain a lot of vitamin E which is great for moisturizing the skin. However, vitamin E not only moisturizes the skin it also protects the skin from cell damage. This vitamin is also very good at warding off any damage that may be caused by the sun's ultra-violet rays. You can get vitamin E by eating nuts such as peanuts, cashews, and almonds daily.

Eat Avocados

Avocados are loaded with vitamin E just like nuts which protect and moisturizes the skin. Avocados also have a high amount of monounsaturated fats that help to keep skin moist. These monounsaturated fats also have the added benefit of helping to keep wrinkles away by slowing down the skin's aging process. Next time you go to the supermarket stock up on these because they make a nice addition to salads. You can also eat them with bread or sprinkle lemon juice on them and eat them by themselves.

Eat Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes contain an abundance of beta-carotene which makes it rich in vitamin A. Vitamin A helps to reduce dry skin significantly. Sweet potatoes are also rich in antioxidants which repair damaged skin tissues and assists in slowing down the skin's aging process. Sweet potatoes are very versatile and can be served boiled, roasted, baked or grilled. They make a nice addition to salads and soups or as a side dish at any meal. Whichever way you choose to enjoy sweet potatoes your skin will thank you for it.
